Myelin Basic Protein (MBP) Description
Myelin Basic Protein (MBP) is involved in the myelination of nerves within the central nervous system (CNS). Studies using knockout mice have demonstrated severe neurological deficits such as seizures, tremors and an early death when this protein is
lacking. The demyelination disease, Multiple Sclerosis, is an example of a human disease that involves the selective loss of MBP by autoimmune mechanisms. Individuals afflicted with MS develop a compromised neurological condition.
Biocare’s antibody to MBP can be used to identify alterations or changes in the
distribution of this protein in tissue sections.
