Nerve Growth Factor Receptor Description NGFR is a useful immunohistochemical marker, when used in conjunction with S100 antibody in the diagnosis of desmoplastic and neurotropic malignant melanomas, which are often negative for other melanocytic markers markers (HMB-45, MART-1/Melan-A). NGFR antibody is also expressed on Schwann cells, neuronal axons and perineural cells as well as tumors derived from those cells, to include malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, Schwannomas, granular cell tumors and neurofibromas. |
